The Oilers currently sit with 25 points in first place in the Pacific Division at a time of year when a lot of people say teams start to settle into where they are in the standings.
Matt Hendricks was asked about the team's fortunes 21 games in.
"I like where we're at. We've had some ups and downs. We started out tremendously and had a 10-game lull there where we were 3-7. That was hard on us but we've come out of that and we've started to climb again. We like where we're sitting in the standings at this time of the season."
Each of the last three seasons, seven of the teams in a playoff spot at Thanksgiving in the Western Conference ended up making it.
"It's important to have a good start and good jump so you're not trying to crawl back into it in the end. We want to keep playing the brand of hockey we've been playing and continue to get better so at the end of the year, we're playing great hockey. It's going to be hard to push us out."
