Peterborough Petes vs Kingston Frontenacs - Peterborough leads series 3-0
Dylan Wells and his Peterborough Petes swept fellow Oilers prospect Ryan Mantha and the Niagara IceDogs 4-0 in the first round of the Ontario Hockey League Playoffs. Wells finished the series with a 2.34 goals-against average and .937 save percentage.
The Petes are currently three games up on their second round opponent, the Kingston Frontenacs. Between the pipes, Wells has limited the Frontenacs to four goals through the trio of games in the series, stopping 88 of 92 shots. He was named the first star of Game 3 and second star of Game 2. Bear and the Thunderbirds struck the Tri-City Americans out of the Western Hockey League Playoffs with four consecutive wins. The Oilers prospect ended the series with two goals, seven assists and nine points.
The Thunderbirds are on the verge of a second consecutive sweep, leading the Everett Silvertips 3-0 in Round 2 as Bear maintains his scoring pace. The rearguard has a goal and three assists to make it 13 points through seven playoff matches. Each game against the Silvertips has been decided by one goal. After winning a gold medal at the 2017 World Junior Championship with the U.S., Caleb Jones' eyes are on an Ed Chynoweth Cup. The Oilers fourth-round selection in the 2015 NHL Draft upset the Prince George Cougars in six games in Round 1. Jones had six helpers.
In the second round against the Kelowna Rockets, the Winterhawks dropped the first two games of the series in Kelowna but rebounded back at Veterans Memorial Coliseum with a 4-2 win on Tuesday. Rasanen - alongside compatriot, linemate and valued draft prospect Eeli Tolvanen - will begin the crusade Friday in the Western Conference Semifinals against the Des Moines Buccaneers.
