Following his first practice with the Oilers, Chris Wideman met with the media and talked about joining the team.
"It was a good practice there. Pretty intense and kind of what I needed. A little shock to the system," Wideman began. "Any time you have Connor coming at you on a two-on-two drill full speed, that's about as fast as it gets in this league. It's a good test and like I said a really good group of guys and it's been a good couple of days."
Wideman was asked what he feels he could bring to the team.
"Reading the play and getting the puck up the ice to the forwards. There's a lot of forwards that make a lot of money on this team and they need the puck," he chuckled.
He continued talking about some of the stars on the team, in particular McDavid and Draisaitl.
"It's pretty special when you have guys like that. Two of the first guys to reach out and welcome me to the team. I cannot express how welcoming everybody's been. It's been unbelievable. They make me feel very comfortable and it's made the last couple of days a lot easier."
Wideman arrived just prior to the team's game on Friday in Anaheim which he watched from the press box.
"I was telling the guys, I haven't seen a 0-0 game going into the third in a long time. Obviously, very defensively responsible. I think it was a tough result. The guys played really hard yesterday. Just a tough result. It was a good effort by the guys."
