EDMONTON, AB - A handful of Edmonton Oilers took part in an optional skate on Thursday at Rogers Place following Wednesday night's 5-2 victory over the Dallas Stars.
Wednesday's victory was another in a long stretch of critical results for the Oilers coming down the stretch towards securing a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Edmonton's magic number for securing a playoff spot is now down to two points, meaning a victory on Friday night over the Colorado Avalanche would be enough to book their ticket to the postseason.
"I think it's just wanting to make sure, for me anyway, that we're putting our best game on the ice consistently. I think we've done that," forward Derek Ryan said. "Some really big wins lately in Nashville, home to Vegas, home to Dallas, and now we're home against Colorado. Those are some big games against teams that are either fighting for their lives or are top of the standings like Colorado. We need to put our best game on the ice every night."
