In four shootout attempts in his young career, Connor McDavid was unable to find twine. Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning, though, that wasn't the case.

Closing in on Tampa Bay's large netminder Ben Bishop, the Oilers captain finally made good on a shootout attempt, lifting the Oil past the visiting squad by a score of 3-2.
McDavid wheeled past the blueline with speed, curled left, then ripped a wrist shot above Bishop's glove.
With so many tricks in his arsenal to draw from, the Lightning goaltender was uncertain what McDavid would do.
"I knew he was going to stickhandle a lot," said Bishop. "I thought I had it, he kind of put it right between my shoulder and glove there. But I just kind of tried to be patient, didn't really go down, thought I kind of had it and obviously he put it in a good spot."
Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan spoke about his reason for including McDavid in the shootout.
"Just a hunch, sometimes," he said. "We had a righty go earlier and then we tried with a couple lefties, so (to) mix it up. Leon has a tendency to come in a little bit slower, Connor comes in fast, so there's a change in pace, as well. A lot of times that's all it is: a hunch."
McLellan also quipped at seeing that more often.
"Many more to come, I hope," he said.
