BLOG: Daryl Katz comments on team expectations

EDMONTON, AB -Owner and Governor of the Edmonton Oilers Daryl Katz is just as excited for the 2017-18 season as the rest of the Oilers fan base. At the end of the day, he's a really big fan of the team.
Mr. Katz was on Oilers Now with Bob Stauffer Tuesday, and he commented on the team, which opens its regular season schedule tomorrow night against the Calgary Flames.
"We're all very excited," said Katz. "I really have to give a lot of credit to Bob Nicholson and Peter Chiarelli for the work they got done in signing Connor (McDavid) and Leon (Draisaitl) and for everything they've done relative to the hockey ops team and re-building the organization from top to bottom."
The Oilers made the playoffs for the first time since 2006 last season. Media members and fans have been predicting they'll be among the top Stanley Cup contenders this year. Katz is very familiar with those expectations.
"Obviously, there's big expectations and I think everybody feels the pressure," he said. "While we don't want to get ahead of ourselves, I think everybody can see the potential of the team, particularly led by Connor. We're in this thing to win, but I think we have to not get ahead of ourselves and everyone has to keep their feet on the ground."
The Oilers owner says the goal for the team is to be "in position to compete for the Stanley Cup year in and year out," and the club appears to be ready to do that with some of their young star players locked up long term and the coaching staff they have behind the bench.
