It was an exciting weekend of merging the past with the present as both the Oilers and Winnipeg Jets took part in the 2016 Tim Hortons Heritage Classic.
A two-day event that featured a nostalgic Saturday afternoon for fans, old and new, cheer on many of the greats from each organization, was followed up by a 2016-17 regular season game between the Jets and Oilers.
"It was awesome," said Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse. "Not only the game and atmosphere we played in, but also meeting the alumni and spending time with them. A couple of nights before the game was special. It was a great weekend in all."
Friday night, the Heritage Classic kicked-off the weekend with a dinner that merged former and current players together.
"You get around them, you see the success that they had," said Nurse. "Obviously, it was a different time but at the same time, the experiences that they had and shared in a lot of ways could be similar to us. Just being around each other all the time and spending a lot of time together. They definitely have a connection that we all want to have here in this room when we get older, it shows how much hard work and dedication it took for them to get there."
