The 29-year-old defenseman missed seven games with a separated left shoulder sustained against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Dec. 10.
It will be Shattenkirk's first game in St. Louis since he was traded from the Blues to the Washington Capitals for Zach Sanford, Brad Malone, a first-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft and a conditional second-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft on Feb. 27, 2017.
Goalie Henrik Lundqvist starts for the Rangers. He's three wins from tying Terry Sawchuk (445) for sixth place on the NHL all-time list.
Blues forward Robby Fabbri is back after missing 11 games, 10 with a separated shoulder sustained against the Arizona Coyotes on Dec. 1. He was scratched in a 6-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.
