Selected by the St. Louis Blues in the second round (No. 46) in 2011 NHL Draft, Edmundson became a full-time NHL player in 2015-16 after two seasons with Chicago of the American Hockey League.
He made his NHL debut on Oct. 8, 2015 and scored his first NHL goal against the Vancouver Canucks on March 25, 2016. Edmundson finished the season with nine points (one goal, eight assists) in 67 games.

Edmundson improved upon his offensive totals the following two seasons; he scored 15 points (three goals, 12 assists) in 69 games in 2016-17 and an NHL career-high 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 69 games in 2017-18.
He scored 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in 64 regular-season games and helped the Blues win the Stanley Cup in 2019 with one goal and six assists in 22 playoff games.
Edmundson was traded by the Blues, along with forward Dominik Bokk and a seventh-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, to the Hurricanes for defenseman Justin Faulk and a fifth-round pick in the 2020 Draft on Sept. 24, 2019.
