Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk has been diagnosed with a concussion, according to head coach Bill Peters.

Van Riemsdyk experienced a heavy collision into the end boards during the third period of Saturday's game against Minnesota. He left the game briefly before returning to play two shifts in the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Van Riemsdyk, who Peters said is also dealing with some "lower-body issues," is now in the concussion protocol. He will not play versus Columbus on Tuesday and will remain sidelined until he's cleared.
With three days separating tonight from the team's next game, Peters said there are no current plans to recall a defenseman, but that could change as the week moves along.
"We don't play very much early," Peters said. "We'll get through today and decide."
