. Thrice Columbus took a lead, and thrice the Canes answered back. Then, Carolina grabbed an advantage late in the second period, and though the Blue Jackets found an equalizer in the third period, the Canes were able to pull away with a pair of goals and hold on for the victory in the first of eight meetings between the two teams.

"It was just one of those weird ones that turned out that way," said Ryan Dzingel, who tallied a pair of assists and was one of 11 Canes to find the scoresheet. "It was good to get it done, be gritty, find a way to capitalize and finish."
