No home remedy: Stars' power play fizzles in loss to Capitals

Dallas goes 0-for-6 on man-advantage against Washington, finishes with just one point on two-game homestand

DALLAS -- The Stars' power play seems to be missing one of its most important ingredients these days:

Power.

Radek Faksa scored his first goal of the season Saturday, but Dallas continued its season-long slumber on the man-advantage against the Capitals, failing to convert on six opportunities en route to a 4-1 loss at American Airlines Center.

Stars' best effort not enough in shootout loss to Flames

Dallas earned a point, but saw its two-goal advantage evaporate in the third period as Calgary rallied late to win

by Jeff Odom @jeffodom / DallasStars.com

DALLAS -- The Stars put forth their best effort of the young season on Thursday against the Flames. It just wasn't enough to push them into the win column for the second consecutive game.

Despite goals from captain Jamie Benn and Joel L'Esperance, the Stars couldn't hold onto a two-goal lead in the third period as the Flames stormed back to force overtime and take an eventual 3-2 shootout win at American Airlines Center.

"I think we played good today," said Stars defenseman John Klingberg, who picked up his first point with an assist. "Obviously I think we had some really good looks. ... I think if we keep playing like this, we're gonna get results as well."

Stars-Wild takeaways: Rookie Harley proving future is bright

The 2019 first-round pick earns the primary assist on Dallas' lone goal in an exhibition loss to Minnesota

by Jeff Odom @jeffodom / DallasStars.com

DALLAS -- For a fleeting moment, the compelling story that has been Thomas Harley's September with the Stars seemed as if it was about to get another chapter Thursday against the Wild.

Taking a feed at the top of the right circle from Andrew Cogliano in the second period, the rookie defenseman quickly fired home a sizzling wrister that looked like it had found a way through traffic and past Minnesota's Devan Dubnyk for his first preseason goal.

Harley, however, knew better.

What we learned from Stars' preseason loss to Blues

Pavelski debuts for Dallas at center and Kiviranta flashes his potential in Monday's exhibition opener

by Jeff Odom @jeffodom / DallasStars.com

DALLAS -- Monday's preseason opener between the Stars and Blues looked a lot like, well, a preseason opener.

St. Louis scored twice in the second period on goals from Klim Kostin and Robert Bortuzzo and Dallas had a difficult time shaking off its offseason rust, falling 2-0 at American Airlines Center.

"Our competitive spirit wasn't very good tonight and we need to get better," coach Jim Montgomery said of the Stars, who looked sluggish at times and were outshot 33-22 for the game.

With plenty to sort out between now and opening night on Oct. 3, here is what we saw from the first of Dallas' seven exhibition contests this month:
