Matt Duchene would be the first to admit he wanted a better showing in his first season with the Predators.
After signing a seven-year, $56 million deal with Nashville back on July 1, 2019, the centerman posted 13 goals and 42 points in 66 games with the Preds in 2019-20 - not bad, but not what's expected either. However, the start of a fresh season always brings new hope, and that's exactly what Duchene has with this Predators team.

Following the conclusion of Nashville's run in the 2020 Stanley Cup Qualifiers, Duchene had this to say about the future.
"We went through a lot of adversity this year, me included," Duchene said back in August. "Every adverse situation you get put in is a chance to grow, and a chance to learn and move forward. I've got a lot of years left in Nashville. I'm proud, so happy to be here. I love this team, I love this group, and I believe in this group. Better days are ahead for sure."
Don't underestimate the new-dad energy either - Duchene and his wife, Ashley, welcomed their second child back in November. No doubt No. 95 will want to score a few for his new daughter in the months to come.
By the Numbers:
- Duchene led all Nashville forwards in assists (29) and face-off percentage (56.1 percent) in 2019-20.
- His seven assists were the most by a Preds player through the team's first six games of a season in franchise history.
- He holds a career face-off percentage of 53.3 percent, the 14th-highest mark among centers with at least 10,000 faceoffs taken since the 2009-10 season.
Fun Fact:
- Duchene, who was selected third overall by the Colorado Avalanche in 2009, was one of 10 first-round picks featured on the Predators' roster during the 2019-20 season, joining Ryan Ellis, Dante Fabbro, Filip Forsberg, Mikael Granlund, Dan Hamhuis, Ryan Johansen, Jarred Tinordi, Kyle Turris and Austin Watson.
