Filip Forsberg scored Nashville's first hat trick of the season, but the Predators had to settle for one point in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights in a New Year's Eve matinee Saturday at T-Mobile Arena.
Forsberg found an angle to beat Logan Thompson and give the Predators a 1-0 lead at 4:45 of the first period, and Jeremy Lauzon extended Nashville's lead to 2-0 at 11:22.
Keegan Kolesar got the Golden Knights on the board, deflecting a shot from Daniil Miromanov past Kevin Lankinen to cut the Predators lead in half and make the score 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
Vegas tied it up less than two minutes into the second period with a goal from Michael Amadio. Minutes later, Reilly Smith picked up the loose puck at the doorstep and fired it into the net, giving the Golden Knights a 3-2 lead.
Chandler Stephenson found the back of the net to extend Vegas' lead to 4-2 at the start of the third period, but Forsberg's third goal of the night brought the Preds within one. Forsberg then ripped the puck home on the power play with less than five seconds remaining in regulation to record the hat trick, tie the game at 4 and force overtime.
Nicolas Hague fired a one-timer into the back of the net 2:04 into the extra frame to seal the Golden Knights' win.
Lankinen made 27 saves in goal for the Predators, who are now 15-14-5 in 2022-23.

Filthy 500
With goals in the first and third periods vs. Vegas, Forsberg has tied David Legwand for the second-most multi-point games in Predators history (120). Forsberg has scored in each of his last three games and is now the third player in team history to reach the 500-point milestone. Forsberg (483) passed Martin Erat (481) and moved into sole possession of third place on the Predators' all-time points list on Nov. 8 at Seattle.

Forsberg leads Nashville in points this season with 32 (14g-18a), including 29 points (12g-17a) in his last 29 games dating back to Oct. 22 vs. Philadelphia. He's recorded four three-point games in that time frame - Oct. 27 vs. St. Louis (3a), Nov. 1 at Edmonton (1g-2a), Friday at Anaheim (1g-2a) and Saturday at Vegas (3g). His 34 three-point games are the most in Predators history. He is now tied with David Legwand (120) for the second-most multi-point games in Predators history.
Lauz Vegas
Lauzon's first-period goal, assisted by Mikael Granlund and Dante Fabbro, was his first of the season. Lauzon has a history of success against the Golden Knights - he scored his first career NHL goal on Nov. 11, 2018 vs. Vegas (Malcolm Subban).

Filip Forsberg on his tying hat-trick goal:
"I thought we got off to a good start early. We got the early goal there from a good play by Sissons and Parssinen. I think our line was playing well and then obviously the lines got shuffled around a little bit toward the end, but everybody was playing better in the third. And the last goal was obviously a good play on the blue line there by Josi and Duchene and I just tried to hit the net."
Hynes on Forsberg's offensive production:
"I think particularly in the last two games, I think he's skating well, his execution is good and he's scoring in different ways. And that's something that we continually talk with him about, is to be a threat with his power and his power game down low or at the net front, and he had some goals there. And then obviously, you can see the way that he can shoot the puck. So it's good to see him play with that consistency level."
Jeremy Lauzon on Nashville forcing overtime:
"I think we played pretty good. Obviously in the first I think we defended a little too much and we were still up by one goal, but they dominated a little bit more than us. It caught up to us in the second and third, but we showed character coming back from a two goal lead to force the OT. Obviously, we wanted to win, but it's a huge point for us."
Hynes on Nashville's push in the third period:
"I thought we worked and obviously made a push there in the third period and scored late. Those six-on-five situations are critical... You go from basically no points to giving yourself a chance to get two in overtime. So I thought that the push we made in the third and staying with it was good."
The Preds return home to kick off the new calendar year with a Tuesday night matchup against the Montreal Canadiens at Bridgestone Arena. Puck drops at 7 p.m. CT, and the game will be broadcast on Bally Sports South, 102.5 The Game and El Jefe Radio.
