Hockey Fights Cancer

(Edmonton, AB) - The Edmonton Oilers and Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) will again be proudly supporting Hockey Fights Cancer to tackle hockey's most important battle, cancer. This evening while the Oilers take on the Washington Capitals, the Oilers Foundation with the help of the Oilers Ladies will be selling limited-edition Oilers toques featuring the Rogers Place Inaugural Season logo for only $20 each.

Toques will be available on the concourses at Rogers Place during the game. Also, for the first time, fans not attending the game can purchase the toques from 5:00 PM until puckdrop in Ford Hall while supplies last.
Net proceeds from this annual Hockey Fights Cancer fundraiser will again benefit the Kids with Cancer Society's BrainWorks program and the EOCF. The Kids with Cancer Society helps children diagnosed with cancer and their families throughout Northern Alberta handle various issues - from the time of diagnosis throughout treatment and beyond - through support clinical programs and research as they navigate cancer treatment or cope with cognitive late effects.
To date, there have been 1,175 requests for treatment and consultation fulfilled by the BrainWorks program, partly thanks to the Oilers Foundation's dedication to this life-changing initiative.
"Without the support of the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation we would not be able to provide the services we do for families in their time of greatest need," said Kids with Cancer Society Executive Director Val Figliuzzi. "The Kids with Cancer Society is thankful to the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation for its support and incredible influence to raise awareness that cancer is a relentless disease and affects children who are defenceless. We are grateful for their partnership - our kids LOVE the Oilers!
"It is because of organizations like the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation that the Kids with Cancer Society is able to provide 55 programs and services, including BrainWorks, to children with cancer and their families."
Hockey Fights Cancer's signature colour, lavender, will be evident throughout Rogers Place during the Oilers game, with lavender rink boards and in-bowl lighting. Additionally, Oilers players will be using lavender tape and donning special Hockey Fights Cancer helmet decals during the game. Oilers Management and Coaches will also be showcasing their support by wearing the official lavender Hockey Fights Cancer ties.
"The Kids with Cancer Society truly performs life-changing work," said Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation Executive Director Natalie Minckler. "Our Oilers Foundation is proud to join the fight against childhood cancer and we are committed to supporting the children and families affected in any way that we possibly can."
