MORNING SKATE REPORT

SAN JOSE, CA - Pontus Aberg will make his debut tonight in San Jose as the Oilers aim for a fourth consecutive victory and clean sweep of their California road trip.
They weren't pretty or easy by any means, but Edmonton is coming off back-to-back wins in Southern California as they edged the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 on Saturday and beat the Anaheim Ducks 6-5 in a shootout on Sunday.
Armed with their new speedy winger Aberg, the Oilers head into tonight's Pacific Division battle with the Sharks looking to match their longest win streak of the season.
"It's good to be here," Aberg said following his first on-ice session with his new team. "It was a long flight from Toronto yesterday, but I'm happy to be here and I'm looking forward to the game tonight."
The 24-year-old Swede comes to the Oilers from Nashville, who received Mark Letestu in return and then flipped him to Columbus for a draft pick. Aberg scored two goals and six assists in 38 games with the Predators this season prior to getting dealt to the Oilers on Sunday.
The 37th-overall pick from the 2012 NHL Draft said, "I'm going to use my speed out there and try to take the puck to the net," which is exactly what he did last spring when he scored the game-winning goal during Game 5 of Nashville's Western Conference Final series against Anaheim.
He was used heavily during the Predators run to the Stanley Cup Final, even earning some time playing with Filip Forsberg. But his minutes were much tougher to come by this season, with Nashville not having to deal with the number of injures to forwards as they had during the post-season.
Aberg, whose last appearance with the Predators came on Feb. 15 against Calgary, is ready for some consistent game action.
"I'm in the lineup, so that feels good," he said. "It's a good opportunity for me for a fresh start. I haven't played for a couple games lately, so it's going to be good to go back in with a new team."
During the Oilers morning skate at SAP Center, Aberg played on the right wing with Ryan Strome in the middle and Jesse Puljujarvi on the left side. It's expected that line will remain intact for tonight's game in San Jose.
"It's a young, skilled line," Aberg said. "I'm looking forward to playing with these guys. We're going to be a fast line out there."
Strome, who is red-hot with five goals in his last five games including two on Sunday in Anaheim, is eager to develop a productive rapport with his new winger.
"He's good some good speed and skill just from watching him today, and I remember playing him when he was in Edmonton with Nashville," he said. "He's got a good shot and good skill so hopefully we can connect for one. Any time you get a new guy, you want to feel out the kinks and try to get some chemistry."
Head Coach Todd McLellan said he and his staff are looking forward to figuring out how Aberg best fits into their lineup, and the team must also dedicate some time off the ice to make the new guy feel welcome.
"He's only been involved in one organization, that being Nashville, so this is a bit of a shock for him," he said. "To land late yesterday and get acclimatized with a new team isn't an easy thing to do, especially for a European player, so we want to make him comfortable, let him play, get him confident and work with him as we go forward."
Zack Kassian, who left Sunday's game in Anaheim with an injury, will not be available to play tonight. However, Kris Russell, who missed Sunday's game with a hand ailment, will be a game-time decision.
Taking that into account, here is Edmonton's potential lineup against the Sharks, with Cam Talbot starting in net after getting Sunday off in lieu of Al Montoya.

PREVIEW

OILERS (27-31-4) at SHARKS (33-21-9)
TV: 8:30 p.m. MST; Televised on Sportsnet
Head-to-Head:
Tonight's game marks the third of four meetings this season between the Oilers and the Sharks and second and final game in San Jose. These teams will meet again in Edmonton on March 14th.
The last time these teams met was on February 10th in San Jose, when the Sharks topped the Oilers 6-4. Zack Kassian scored two goals for the Oilers in the loss.
Michael Cammalleri leads all Oilers players in career points against the Sharks (30), posting 13 goals, 17 assists and 16 penalty minutes in 46 games. His 46 career games against the Sharks are the most by a current Oiler.
Oilers team scope:
The Oilers have won three straight games and four of their last five, including the first two on their current road trip which wraps up tonight. This recent stretch is coming off six consecutive losses.
The two games earlier on this trip were both won in unconventional fashion. On Saturday, the Oilers had a 4-2 lead with 18 seconds to play when the Kings scored then appeared to tie it with nine seconds left only to have the goal overturned due to goaltender interference.
On Sunday, the Oilers were up 5-3 with 20 seconds left and the Ducks scored a pair of goals to send it to a shootout. Ultimately, the Oilers won that shootout.
Edmonton made several moves over the last three days, sending out Brandon Davidson, Mark Letestu and Pat Maroon for picks and prospects with one NHL player coming back into the fold. Pontus Aberg could make his Oilers debut tonight. He has two goals and eight points on the season in 37 games.
Sharks team scope:
San Jose sits second in the Pacific Division with 75 points. They have dropped each of their last three games, including a 3-2 overtime loss on Sunday to Minnesota.
San Jose acquired LW Evander Kane from Buffalo at the NHL Trade Deadline on Monday. Kane has 20 goals and 40 points in 61 games this season.
Defenceman Brent Burns leads the Sharks in scoring with 51 points in 63 games, though Burns has a -21 plus/minus rating which is the lowest on the team.
By the Numbers:
Aberg has never before played against the Sharks in his NHL career and could get an opportunity to face them for the first time tonight if he's in the lineup.
Leon Draisaitl has points in seven of his last nine games (6G, 5A, 11PTS), and points in 15 of his last 19 games (9G, 15A, 24PTS).
Through Feb. 25, McDavid ranks third in NHL scoring, with 74 points (27G, 47A) in 62 games. McDavid ranks second in NHL scoring in February, having posted 20 points (12G, 8A) in 13 games.
Injury Report:
OILERS - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (cracked ribs) is out.
SHARKS - Joe Thornton (knee) is on IR; Joel Ward (shoulder) is on IR; Justin Braun (illness) is day-to-day
