EDMONTON, AB - When you've had as positive a season as Oilers 2020 fourth-round draft pick Carter Savoie, you don't want it to end.
The 20-year-old forward, selected 100th overall by Edmonton in 2020, captured the NCAA Frozen Four national championship with the Denver Pioneers on April 9 and will extend his season with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors after signing an amateur tryout (ATO) contract on Monday.
The St. Albert native scored 23 goals and 45 points in 39 games during his sophomore campaign, including the overtime winner against the Michigan Wolverines in the Frozen Four semifinal.
Savoie scored in each of Denver's first three games as part of the NCAA bracket and was one of three forwards named to the all-tournament team for his efforts.
The Condors have five regular season games remaining, starting with Wednesday's matchup against the San Jose Barracuda. Their 33-20-10 record has them sitting fifth in the Pacific Division, and they have already clinched a spot in the AHL playoffs.
