EDMONTON, AB - Oilers Director of Amateur Scouting Tyler Wright had two reasons to be pleased following Round 1 of the 2021 NHL Draft.
For one, the long-time talent recruiter was happy to see the Edmonton Oilers gain an additional draft pick after President of Hockey Operations & General Manager Ken Holland swapped the 20th-overall selection to the Minnesota Wild for picks 22 and 90. Prior to that deal, Edmonton was slated to make their next choice in Round 4 at pick No. 116.
The second cause of Wright's satisfaction came with the acquisition of Shawinigan Cataractes centre Xavier Bourgault. The 22nd-overall choice blends flash with finish and projects to be a top-six forward in the years to come. When it came to characterizing the type of player Bourgault is, Wright spared no shortage of reasons for acquiring the 6-foot-0, 172-pounder.
