As the Oilers prospects gear up for the 2017 Development Camp in Jasper, AB, they have gathered at Rogers Place for medicals and fitness testing today.
Dylan Wells is an exciting goalie prospect who had a big year in the OHL, playing 52 games for the Peterborough Petes. Wells had a .916 save percentage in those games, and then posted a .930 save percentage in 12 playoff starts.
Now the netminder hopes to work with Oilers Goaltending Coach Dustin Schwartz and Goaltending Development Coach Sylvain Rodrigue on furthering his development.
"With Dustin and Sly, they're big on the head trajectory stuff so it's a lot of technical aspects of my game I'm trying to take out of this just to carry home and work on with my goalie coach back home," said Wells. "They have really good stuff and any time you get the chance to skate with them you definitely improve. I got the chance to work with them at the Hockey Canada Camp a few weeks ago and that was awesome. I took some stuff home and worked on it on the ice so I just want to do the same thing here, soak up everything they're saying.
"They're around the NHL every day so they see these guys like Cam Talbot and Laurent Brossoit every day. Just to get their feedback and get their opinion on what I can be doing to improve is huge."
Wells is one of four goalies participating in the camp, joining his long-time friend and 2017 draft pick Stuart Skinner, Shane Starrett and Miroslav Svoboda.
