BLOG: Proceeds of 1984-85 event going to Semenko Legacy

EDMONTON, AB -The Edmonton Oilers announced Wednesday, ahead of the team's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, that they will host a special public event honouring the 1984-85 Oilers team.
That particular Oilers team was voted the "Greatest Team of All Time" as part of the NHL's 2017 Centennial Celebrations. The event will take place on February 11, 2018, at Rogers Place and will be an "intimate and interactive evening of storytelling and unique multi-media vignettes."
Net proceeds of the event will be directed toward the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF), who will establish a legacy endowment in the name of former Oiler Dave Semenko.
"We'll be telling Dave's stories for the rest of our lives and probably the best stories we ever came across were with Mr. Semenko," said former Oilers forward Glenn Anderson. "It was an endless amount of fun and good times and serious at points in time but the bigger picture is we're doing something for his foundation and him. It's something that will go down in our memories forever."
Semenko passed away at the age of 59 on June 29. He played 69 games for the 84-85 Oilers team, scoring six goals and adding 12 assists. He played 14 games during the Stanley Cup playoffs that season.
