Gretzky vs. Ovi: Chel on Twitch

EDMONTON, AB - What happens when hockey's two greatest goal scorers collide in the virtual world?

As the Great One, Wayne Gretzky, and the Great Eight, Alexander Ovechkin, showed: jokes, laughs, goals and money raised for a great cause.

Gretzky, the National Hockey League's all-time leading goal scorer with 894 tallies, and Ovechkin, who sits eighth in all-time goal scoring with 706 in 1152 games, faced off in an EA Sports NHL 20 clash on Wednesday coined 'The Great One vs. The Great Eight Showcase.'

Gretzky, playing as the Oilers Alumni team, and Ovechkin, competing as his Washington Capitals, each had a teammate join them for Wednesday's doubleheader. Wayne and his son Trevor took Game 1 by a 5-4 score with some overtime heroics.

In Game 2, it was all Caps, as Ovechkin and John "JohnWayne" Casgranda of the Capitals' esports brand Caps Gaming prevailed 4-1 over Wayne and his older son Ty.

Thanks to their collective effort, more than $40,000 was raised from the live stream with the proceeds going to Edmonton's Food Bank and MSE Foundation's Feeding the Frontlines fund.

"We both are not very good at this game, but what a great cause, right, when everybody's so down and out," said Gretzky, who swapped a hockey helmet for a gaming headset for the occasion.

"Hopefully everybody's having a little bit of enjoyment laughing at us."
