Eller was did not participate in the morning skate and was placed in NHL COVID-19 protocol in the afternoon. ... Oshie skated Tuesday for the first time since the forward was injured against the Detroit Red Wings on Oct. 27. Dowd, who was injured against the Buffalo Sabres on Nov. 8, also participated in the morning skate, but did the forward not take line rushes. ... Backstrom has been skating before practices and the center is eligible to come off long-term injured reserve, but is not on the road trip. ... The Capitals recalled Pilon from Hershey of the American Hockey League on Monday and he replaced Eller on the third line during the morning skate. ...
