Drysdale was selected with the No. 6 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft by the Anaheim Ducks after being an Ontario Hockey League First-Team All Star with Erie in 2019-20.
The defenseman scored 47 points (nine goals, 38 assists) in 49 games during his second season in the OHL. He was 10th among OHL defensemen in points per game (.96) and led Erie defensemen in goals, assists, points, power-play assists (19) and power-play goals (three).

He also helped Canada win the IIHF 2020 World Junior Championship, scoring three points (one goal, two assists) in seven games. At 17 years, eight months, Drysdale became the youngest defensemen since 2001 to play for Canada at the World Junior Championship since Jay Bouwmeester (17 years, three months), and the sixth-youngest Canadian defensemen all-time.
