Nashville, Tenn. (July 29, 2021) - Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the team has signed forward Mathieu Olivier to a two-year, $1.5 million contract.

Olivier, 24 (2/11/97), skated in 30 games for the Predators in 2020-21, his first full NHL season. He contributed five points (3g-2a) - including his first career NHL goal, a power-play tally, on Jan. 30 at Tampa Bay - and led Nashville in penalty minutes (70). He also ranked sixth among Predators skaters in hits with 62 and averaged 10:55 of ice time, often spent on Nashville's fourth line alongside Colton Sissons and Yakov Trenin. Olivier made his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut in Game 1 of Nashville's first-round series vs. Carolina; he also appeared in the team's double OT victory in Game 4.
Undrafted, the 6-foot-2, 209-pound forward made his NHL debut with the Predators during the 2019-20 campaign and has tallied six points (3g-3a) in 38 career contests with the team. He signed with the Predators prior to the 2018-19 season, which he spent as a rookie pro with the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals. In his sophomore professional season, Olivier notched 19 points (10g-9a) in 56 games for Milwaukee, helping Nashville's primary affiliate post the AHL's best record. Prior to turning pro, he spent five seasons in the QMJHL from 2013-18 with Moncton, Shawinigan and Sherbrooke. Olivier was born in Biloxi, Miss., while his father, Simon, was playing for the ECHL's Mississippi Sea Wolves; he was the first player born in Mississippi to play in the NHL.
