Sabres 5, Blue Jackets 4 (SO): Linus Weissbach scored the tying goal with 54 seconds left in the third period to help the Buffalo Sabres to a 5-4 shootout win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena in Columbus on Tuesday.
Weissbach had two assists for the Sabres, who scored three times in the third period in their preseason opener.
Jack Quinn scored the only goal in the shootout. The 20-year-old forward was the No. 8 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.
Jake Bean had a goal and two assists in his Blue Jackets debut after being acquired in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes on July 24. He did not play in the preseason opener Monday, a 3-0 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Rangers 3, Bruins 2: Artemi Panarin had a goal and two assists in his preseason debut to help the New York Rangers defeat the Boston Bruins 3-2 at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.
Panarin made it 3-2 on a breakaway at 19:00, the last of five goals in the second period.
Anthony Bitetto gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 3:35, their first goal of the preseason. The Rangers lost to the New York Islanders 4-0 on Sunday.
Kaapo Kakko made it 2-0 at 7:22 before Jack Studnicka cut it to 2-1 at 8:46. Urho Vaakanainen tied it 2-2 at 15:29 with a 4-on-4 goal.
Igor Shesterkin made 11 saves on 12 shots in 30:21 for New York, and Tyler Wall saved 15 of 16 shots in relief.
