TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - Following a day off on Sunday, the Carolina Hurricanes will face off with the Columbus Blue Jackets in their third and final round-robin game of the 2018 NHL Prospect Tournament.
Today's game action in Traverse City will decide final seeding and match-ups heading into Tuesday. The Hurricanes could still compete for the Matthew Wuest Memorial Cup with a win over Columbus and a St. Louis victory over Chicago. If Carolina and Chicago both win, goal differential will break a three-way standings tie.
"We've got to take care of ourselves and win. We've got to win," head coach Mike Vellucci said. "Win the game and go from there."

The Hurricanes got back on the ice for a morning skate on Monday after spending Sunday away from the rink, a day that was capped with a team dinner.
"We took a day off yesterday. It's a lot of hockey in a row," Vellucci said. "We had a good pace this morning. Worked on a couple things we weren't able to do in the first day of practice."
One area of their game the Hurricanes want to improve on is breakouts; the Canes' offense against Chicago was limited in part by their struggles to move the puck up the ice.

Traverse City Tournament: Mike Vellucci

"Our execution hasn't been very good. We're not making good passes out of our own end, so we're spending a lot of time there," Vellucci said. "I'd like to see us forecheck better. We just did some video on it. We're in the right spots, but we're not coming up with the puck."
Turnovers have also been a concern in the first two tournament games. It's somewhat to be expected with a young, inexperienced group that only practiced together once before playing a game. But, it's also something that can be corrected.
"You have to think about it and know the situation," Vellucci said. "Know what the clock says, if you're up a goal or down a goal, if it's the last minute of the period - you've got to be aware of what's going on in the game and manage the puck the best you can."
If the early games in the tournament are any indication, special teams are likely to play a factor in tonight's game, as well.
"We've seen a lot of penalties called. We've got to capitalize on the power play," Vellucci said. "We've scored a power-play goal in each of the last two games, but we gave up two power-play goals in the last one. We've got to win that battle."
The Canes' lineup remains largely unchanged, with Jeremy Helvig set to make his third consecutive start in net.
