RALEIGH, N.C. - Saturday's 3-2 victory in Winnipeg for the Carolina Hurricanes was a big moment not just for Nikolaj Ehlers, but also for head coach Rod Brind'Amour.

With his 385th regular-season victory behind the bench, Brind'Amour passed Paul Maurice (384) to become the winningest head coach in franchise history.

Just the latest record in what's been a marvelous coaching stretch, Brind'Amour reached the milestone in only 625 games.

With 63 playoff wins, he had already held the record for the most postseason wins in franchise history.

Since Brind'Amour took over behind the bench ahead of the 2018-19 season:

  • The Canes have accumulated a record of 385-183-57.
  • Their .662 points percentage ranks second among all NHL teams.
  • The Canes have allowed an average of 2.65 goals per game, the fewest among all NHL teams.
  • Their 84.4% penalty kill ranks first.

NHL milestones Brind'Amour has accomplished during his coaching tenure:

  • Fewest games to 300 wins as a coach in NHL history (488).
  • Most wins by any NHL coach in history through their first 500 games (307).
  • Most wins by any NHL coach in history through their first 600 games (367).

Other organizational milestones Brind'Amour has secured:

  • Most wins in franchise history, including playoffs (448).
  • Most wins through 100 games with the start of a franchise (56).
  • Most wins through 200 games with the start of a franchise (117).
  • Most wins through 300 games with the start of a franchise (182).

Leading the franchise to its second Stanley Cup in June, he became just the fourth individual in league history to both captain a team to a championship as a player and as a head coach.

Brind'Amour has competed in 102 of the organization's 104 postseason victories to date: 39 as a player and 63 as a head coach.

He has led the team to the playoffs in his first eight seasons as a head coach, including at least one series win in all eight appearances. He is the first coach in league history to accomplish that feat.

In 2020-21, Brind'Amour became the first head coach in franchise history to win the Jack Adams Award as the league’s coach of the year.

He also coached the Metropolitan Division to victory at the 2022 NHL All-Star Game in Las Vegas, becoming the first head coach in franchise history selected for the All-Star Game.
