Back-to-back bouncebacks.
It's become a great habit for the Flames.
For the second time this post-season, the Flames dropped Game 2 but then won Game 3 the next day, skating to a 2-0 victory over the Dallas Stars to take a 2-1 lead in their opening-round series.

Brendan Parker recaps the 2-0 victory in Game 3

The three big questions coming into the game were, in no particular order:
1. Would Matthew Tkachuk, who left Game 2 on a few occasions, finally going down the tunnel in the third and not returning, play in Game 3?
Answer: He did not. Instead, Tobias Rieder skated alongside Mikael Backlund and Andrew Mangiapane. Zac Rinaldo and Alan Quine drew into the lineup skating on the wings with centre Derek Ryan, while Mark Jankowski did not dress.
2. Who would get the start between the pipes in this back-to-back: Cam Talbot or David Rittich?
Answer:It was Talbot making his third start of the series. And he was an absolute beast, the game star making 35 saves and recording the shutout, his second of the post-season. Hard to say enough about his performance. In a word, wow!
3. How would the Flames bounce back after a heartbreaking loss in Game 2 where they trailed 4-2 in the third before rallying to tie it, only to see the Stars get the winning goal with 40 seconds left.
Answer:See the final score above.
If Games 1 and 2 were punctuated by physicality and big hits in the first period, Game 3 was more run-and-gun, with plenty of rushes for both teams.
Early on, Rasmus Andersson showed his speed as he barreled down the right-wing aboards and cut around his defender, throwing the puck to Sam Bennett who got a nice shot off that was saved by Anton Khudobin, who started Game 1 but backed up Ben Bishop Thursday night in Game 2.
The Stars then turned up ice for an odd-man rush, Alexander Radulov - who had a big night with a goal and two points Thursday - pulled up and fed a trailing Tyler Seguin, who wired a laser that went off the far post and bounced back to Radulov, who was looking at a wide-open net but fired it wide.
Milan Lucic was whistled for the first penalty of the game with a slash on young Stars blueliner Miro Heiskanen, the standout hero for Dallas with a pair of tallies in the 5-4 victory.
Backlund had a great opportunity short-handed but again, Khudobin was up to the task.
And again it led to Seguin skating up the ice and, in similar fashion to his earlier chance, ringing one off the crossbar.
Before the period ended, Dillon Dube fed Bennett right in the slot, who whipped a backhand looking to go five-hole but Khudobin slammed the pads.
Late in their first powerplay of the night, Backlund flung a cross-ice pass down low to Lucic, who's one-timer from a tight angle hit the net, the big man shaking his head after.

The Stars had the edge in shots early in the frame but the Flames recorded seven straight at one point with more pressure as the frame wore on. Dallas was held without a shot for the final 8:11 of the period.
In the second, the ice was tilted for the Stars when it came to scoring chances however the Flames got the all-important winning goal.
Rinaldo was sent to the box at 5:04 of the second for hooking Heiskanen.
As the Stars tried to get the puck back to the point, Elias Lindholm got his stick on it and chipped it out of the zone. As Roope Hintz tried to turn to skate after the puck he fell and Backlund picked it up in stride, then driving around the backchecking Corey Perry to flip it past Khudobin, Lindholm following up to knock at the puck for good measure.
It was his third goal of the post-season and the Flames second short-handed tally in as many games.

With 39 seconds left in the second stanza, the Stars got a powerplay with TJ Brodie sent to the box.
However, Stars forward - and former Flame - Blake Comeau had two-handed a pane of glass near the Stars bench as he left the ice from a shift, breaking it.
The officials elected to end the period early and tack the time onto the third.
So they played the 39 clicks, then switched ends and had a faceoff at centre. The end result, though, was Calgary's PK denied the Stars a goal on the man-up.
Brodie doubled the lead when he gathered up a puck near the blueline and took a few steps and absolutely stepped into a slapshot with everything he had, whistling it by a screened Khudobin.

THEY SAID IT:

Talbot on his night:
"I felt pretty good from the get-go. They had some chances early on and I was able to feel the puck and make some saves and gain confidence from there."
On when he found out he was starting Game 3:
"Last night at 12:30-ish. Obviously it was a late one. They asked me how I was feeling and I told them I feel good. They asked me if I wanted to play again and I said, 'Yes. 100%. I'll rest tomorrow after a big win.' I'm happy they had the confidence in me and I was able to reward them."

"I'm happy they had the confidence in me"

Brodie on his goaltender:
"He was great. He made some huge saves, especially towards the end of the game. Whenever there was a breakdown, he was there and was solid all night long."
Rieder on victory:
"That's a good hockey team over there. We were up a goal and they put the pressure on, but like we said before, Talbs was outstanding tonight and helped us a lot. We had good special teams as well."

"We haven't played our best yet this series"

Backlund on looking ahead:
"You learn from your past, your mistakes. It's our job on Sunday to come out and play better. I don't think we've played our best yet this series. ... I think it shows the strength, too, to find ways to win games and you need that in the playoffs. You need a good goalie - which we've had all along - and you need to find ways to win."

"He was the key to our win tonight"
