The Blackhawks returned home and couldn't maintain the momentum of their strong road trip, falling 5-3 to the Detroit Red Wings at the United Center on Saturday night.

"Weird game," head coach Jeremy Colliton said. "Overall, we did a lot of good things. Created more than enough offensively. Had a bit of trouble breaking through to score, convert, obviously early and they did. They converted their chances, got to give them credit there. Key moments they were able to come through with a big goal to turn momentum... We were really coming and just missed a little bit of mental sharpness around our net."

Here are three takeaways from the loss:

TRAP GAME

Fresh off a 12-day trip, the first game back at home against an opponent sitting at the bottom of the division had all the makings of a classic trap game on Saturday night.
"It's also important not to fall into the trap where, 'Oh, this is nice' and things are just going to take care of themselves because we're home and we've been playing well," Colliton warned before the game. "It's the opposite of that. We've got to really buckle down and make sure we find a way to get ourselves going, be prepared from puck drop."
Chicago got off to a strong start, by and large controlling the opening frame despite a 1-0 hole after 20 minutes of play. They tied things up in the middle of the second only to see Detroit answer back minutes later. Again early in the third, the Blackhawks cut the lead down to two before the Red Wings regained their three-goal advantage shortly thereafter.
"I feel like we came out pretty good. We played decent tonight, but for sure a little sloppy at times and we got punished by it," Janmark said. "It felt like the first game back from a long road trip. We played decent, but we became sloppy at time and we got punished."
"We want the points. These are very heavy points we need because we have Tampa, Dallas and Florida are coming up soon," Adam Boqvist said after a two-assist outing. "Overall, we've just got to stick with it... We can't let up five goals, it's going to be hard to win hockey games then."

CAT AT 10

With the opening goal for the Blackhawks on the night, DeBrincat hit 10 goals on the season in just his 18th game -- the fastest he's hit double-digit scoring to open a season in his career.
2020-21: 18 games
2019-20: 41 games
2018-19: 24 games
2017-18: 23 games
The goal extended his point streak (2G, 3A) to five games, matching a season long. DeBrincat now has a point in eight of 11 career games against the Red Wings and his 14 points (6G, 8A) are his most against any opponent.

BACK AT 'EM

The beauty of the back-to-back is there isn't much time to sulk on Saturday's loss. With the second two-games-in-two-days slate of the season set to be completed on Sunday night, the Blackhawks are looking forward to putting the disappointing effort behind them in a hurry.
Chicago is 0-0-1 in the second game of a back-to-back this season, dropping their first chance in a shootout in Nashville, 2-1. Last season, the Blackhawks were 9-4-1 in the second half of the two-game sets.
"It wasn't our best effort. We got lots to improve. We've got another game tomorrow. We've just gotta go out and win that game, play better than we did today," Janmark said. "We're not going to win every game, we gotta handle some adversity and come out and win tomorrow. It's going to be a huge game for us."
"We've got to learn from it. We will," Colliton said. "Grateful for the chance to get back at it tomorrow."
