SAN JOSE, CA - On Thursday, November 8 the Sharks Foundation was recognized by the Silicon Valley Business Journal as a Top-50 corporate philanthropist in Silicon Valley for the 2017 Fiscal Year. The award was given at the Business Journal's annual Corporate Philanthropy Awards Gala held at the Corinthian Grand Ballroom.
By contributing more than $1.8 million to numerous charitable organizations throughout the Bay Area during the 2016-17 season, the Sharks Foundation ranked No. 14 amongst the honorees which included Kaiser Permanente, SAP, Google and the Sobrato Organization. The No. 14 ranking demonstrates a four-spot improvement for the Sharks Foundation which ranked No. 18 in the 2016 campaign.
During the 2016-17 season, the Sharks Foundation distributed more than $500,000 to Legacy Projects, $300,000 in Community Assist Grant funding, and $242,000 to campaign beneficiaries through the Foundation's three pillars of giving: character development, education, and health and safety. Additionally, the Foundation worked with the Koret Foundation, Taube Philanthropies and SWENSON to donate $282,000 through the Goals for Kids program which dedicates $1,000 for every goal scored by the San Jose Sharks, amongst eight beneficiaries: Loved Twice, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Ronald McDonald House Charities Bay Area, Students Rising Above, Via Services, Victory Ranch Inc., Jewish Family Services of Silicon Valley and the Youth Science Institute.
Through the 2018-19 Giving Campaign, 50/50 Raffle presented by Black Oak Casino and Resort, Goals for Kids program, and Legacy Projects the Sharks Foundation will distribute an estimated $1.8 million to organizations assisting those in need.
