Chris Mason is heading back to where it all began.
For the first time in Predators broadcast history, the Preds netminder turned television color commentator will be between the benches for tonight's contest in Arizona against the Coyotes.
It'll be a bit of nostalgia for Mason, who first got a taste of the broadcasting world years ago on nights where he was serving as Nashville's backup netminder. A pioneer at the time, the Predators would turn to Mason for an in-game interview from the bench, and he quickly proved he had a knack for the craft.

Now, two seasons in to his full-time gig as a color analyst on Fox Sports Tennessee, Mason will once more provide a perspective that can only be achieved at ice level.
"I'm so pumped up to do this because when you're on the bench watching the game, you get such a great vantage point," Mason said. "You just really get to experience the speed and the skill and just the emotion of the game more than when you're up in the booth. I can't wait."
Those tuning in to hear Mason, Willy Daunic and Lyndsay Rowley on the broadcast tonight at 8 p.m. CT will be treated to tidbits from the former netminder that aren't available high above the ice, such as what is being said on both benches, as well as maybe a few chirps, too.
It's a unique viewpoint that Mason believes will give Preds fans just another reason to love the game just as he does.
"I didn't know what I would be doing after playing hockey, but to be able to do this and work with the broadcast crew and everybody at the Predators it's just great," Mason said. "I love hockey and love talking about it now, too, so it's awesome. It's the dream job that I didn't know was my dream job."
