PRE-GAME REPORT

LAS VEGAS, NV -It's been a good road trip for the Oilers. It can be a great road trip with a win on Saturday.
After a tough start to the four-game jaunt to California and Sin City with a 6-3 defeat to the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton outscored the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks by a combined 13-3 margin to pick up a pair of wins and give the squad plenty of confidence heading into tonight's showdown with the Pacific Divison-leading Golden Knights.
"We're going to take on a team that's at the top of our division," Head Coach Jay Woodcroft said last night in San Jose. "That's in front of us, and we're going to try to take two points from them on the road."
It's a tall task for teams to win the second game of a back-to-back set, but the Oilers have actually been pretty good at it, taking three of four this season and holding a 21-9-1 record since the start of 2019-20.
"That's a good team over there," forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins said of the Golden Knights. "Coming off a back-to-back for us, but I think sometimes coming off a back-to-back can help. We seem to play a little simpler early and just rely on our work and I think that's kind of going to be our mindset."
The typical goaltending protocol for back-to-backs is that your goalies split the games. However, with Stuart Skinner not yet back with the team after returning to Edmonton on Tuesday for the impending birth of his and wife Chloe's first-born child, the Oilers could opt for Jack Campbell once again.
The 31-year-old has a .920 save percentage over his last five apperances, including turning aside 46 of 49 shots in the wins over Anaheim and San Jose. He said he's ready and willing to tend the twine again on Saturday if that's what the coaching staff decides.
"I love playing any time I can and love playing in that building too," Campbell said after Friday's win. "It's a big game for us and guys are playing well. I'm trying to do my job whenever I get called."
Calvin Pickard is Edmonton's other option between the pipes as he was recalled from the AHL's Bakersfield Condors on Tuesday and has backed up Campbell the last two games.
Kailer Yamamoto was an unexpected scratch on Friday and Coach Woodcroft said post-game the winger "woke up this morning and declared himself that he couldn't go" vs. San Jose.
With no morning skate today, the Oilers lineup will be made available during pre-game warmup.

Oilers Team Scope
The Edmonton Oilers took care of business in the Shark Tank on Friday night to make it back-to-back wins on this four-game road trip heading into its conclusion on Saturday in the second of a back-to-back in Vegas.
A comfortable 7-1 win over San Jose saw captain Connor McDavid score twice and add an assist on his 26th birthday, while Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins each had a goal and two assists in front of Jack Campbell, who made 25 saves.
"He's a serious pro that has had really good runs in his career and I think his game is going in the right direction," Head Coach Jay Woodcroft said about his goaltender. "He's making the most of the opportunity that he had this week." Campbell has consecutive wins under his belt and could get the nod in back-to-back nights for the Oilers at T-Mobile Arena.
Edmonton looked composed to claim four important points in two games against two of the Pacific Division's outside clubs in the Sharks and Ducks, outscoring opposition 13-3 with balanced contributions and distributing the minutes more evenly across the entire lineup to preserve their energy reservoirs heading into the second of a back-to-back against the division leaders.
"We certainly need to keep building on our game. Two good ones in a row," McDavid said. "Obviously we keep talking about consistency, so that's a good sign, but the test is tomorrow night playing against a good Vegas team to try and make up some ground as well."

Golden Knights Team Scope
The Golden Knights rallied in the final 11 minutes of the third period on Thursday night to defeat the Florida Panthers 4-2 in come-from-behind fashion at T-Mobile Arena.
Jack Eichel scored his 15th goal of the season, sparking the comeback in the final frame, while William Carrier added to his career-high with his 11th goal of the year with 2:36 remaining in regulation. Eichel has four points in three games since returning from a lower-body injury that saw him miss 11 games.
Adin Hill made 37 saves to seal his ninth win of the season for the Pacific Division leading Golden Knights, who own a 28-13-2 record and .674 win percentage. The Vegas backup is 10-3-1 through 16 games this season (15 starts) and needs one win to set a career high.
Despite claiming the two points on Thursday, the Golden Knights lost the services of forward Mark Stone, who left the game with an upper-body injury and is 'week-to-week' for a Vegas team that's beginning to rack up the injuries. Stone is second on the Golden Knights with 38 points (17 goals, 21 assists) in 42 games and was on pace for 32 goals this season, which would've been one shy of his career high of 33 set in 77 games in 2018-19.
"He was in this morning, he's still getting some tests done," Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said Friday. "He won't play tomorrow. We'll put him as week-to-week for now and see where we're at once he gets back on the ice."
