NEWARK, N.J. -- Cam Talbot made 30 saves in his debut for the Philadelphia Flyers, a 6-3 win against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center on Friday.

The Flyers set an NHL record by using their eighth goalie of the season.
James van Riemsdyk had two goals and an assist, Travis Konecny scored twice, and Jakub Voracek had three assists for Philadelphia (31-26-8), which is 15-4-1 in its past 20 games and five points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference.

It was the first multigoal game against the Devils for van Riemsdyk, a native of Middletown, New Jersey, who has 25 in his 10 NHL seasons.
"It's always fun for me playing in this building again and getting a chance to see a lot of friends and family after the game, knowing there's a lot of Jersey people here to support me, so that's always fun," van Riemsdyk said.
Damon Severson had a goal and two assists, Jesper Bratt had a goal and an assist, Kevin Rooney scored, and Cory Schneider made 27 saves for the Devils (25-32-8), who have lost two games in a row and three of five.

PHI@NJD: Severson buries rebound past Talbot

"I felt like I gave one away for my teammates," Schneider said. "It was a winnable game. The way I played and felt lately, to have one like this, is disappointing. I'm pretty confident, and the next time I play, I'll get back on track."
Konecny gave the Flyers a 3-2 lead when the puck went off his skate and deflected in off Schneider's toe and Rooney's skate at 19:30 of the second period.
"It definitely changed the momentum in our direction," Konecny said. "We knew we didn't play our best, so it was definitely nice to get that one at the end of the second."
Sean Couturier made it 4-2 off a wrist shot from the left face-off circle 27 seconds into the third period.

Ivan Provorov scored off a deflection at 6:33 for a 5-2 lead, and Konecny scored into an empty net for his second of the night to make it 6-2 at 16:12.
Rooney scored at 17:48 to make it 6-3.
Severson scored off a rebound from the right circle 4:25 into the second period to pull the Devils to within 2-1. Bratt tied the game 2-2 with a backhand from the slot at 8:49.
Van Riemsdyk scored a power-play goal 12:53 into the first period to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.
He scored his second of the game at the left post at 14:16 to make it 2-0. Ryan Hartman, acquired in a trade from the Nashville Predators on Monday, got his first assist with Philadelphia on a pass from behind the net.

"I yelled for it and didn't know if [Hartman] saw me or not, but he put it right on my tape," van Riemsdyk said. "It was a really impressive, highly skilled play, and he's been fun to play with."
Talbot was acquired in a trade from the Edmonton Oilers on Feb. 15. He follows Brian Elliott, Carter Hart, Michal Neuvirth, Calvin Pickard, Anthony Stolarz, Alex Lyon and Mike McKenna as goalies to play for the Flyers this season.
"Obviously things didn't turn out the way I had hoped in Edmonton, but it's nice to get a fresh start on a team that is playing extremely well right now," Talbot said. "I'm coming in and trying to keep my head down, not to mess with the chemistry, and try to contribute any chance I can get like tonight."

They said it

"Teams probably look at us differently (since trading forward Wayne Simmonds to the Nashville Predators on Monday), but we're still sticking together. I think [Simmonds] left a lot of that with us. He taught us young guys to stick up for our teammates." -- Flyers forward Travis Konency
"There weren't a ton of bad moments, but some of the goals that went in we would like to have back. When you look at how the game was played, and how we competed, it's unfortunate we weren't able to score more. Some of the goals that went in, they can't go in the back of the net like that." -- Devils coach John Hynes
