Predators team scope

Nashville Predators right wing James Neal is questionable after departing in the second period of a 3-2 home loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday because of an upper-body injury. The Predators did not have a morning skate Friday. "We don't have anything to report at this point," coach Peter Laviolette said. The Predators could go with backup Juuse Saros in goal after Pekka Rinne played Thursday, but Laviolette was not tipping his hand. "Some things I'm not sure of, some things I am," he said. The Predators are three points behind the Dallas Stars for the final wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the Western Conference and are 0-2-1 in their past three games. "When you're rolling in a good way everything's good," Laviolette said. "And when you're rolling in a bad way, the next game is so important. Even that game [Thursday], the way it ended in the third, the players are frustrated, they're disappointed, but you've got to move forward as well. It's a big division game tonight and I think our guys realize that. Everybody realizes where we're at and we've just got to focus on one game at a time here. You can't go back and change the month of December. You can't go [ahead] and play January. We've just got to go ahead and focus on this one game. It's always a tough game with St. Louis, just a heavy battle game. It's usually the team that can win the battles usually wins the game, moreso than any other opponent that we have."

Blues team scope

The St. Louis Blues understand they need to focus on winning their game against Predators before turning their attention towards the 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic against the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday. The Blues are coming off a 6-3 win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday. "Everyone's done a good job," left wing Jaden Schwartz said. "Obviously there's some stuff you've got to organize, stuff the day before and stuff like that, but it's pretty easy to stay on. These are big points. Obviously tonight's a big one, a divisional game. The [Winter Classic] game's still not until Monday. We've got a few days to look forward to that after today." Said coach Ken Hitchcock, "I think we'd be naive to think that there's a lot of stuff going on. I liked our energy yesterday, I liked our energy today. I liked the way we played the last game. Things are trending in the right direction but we've got a significant opponent." Starting goalie Jake Allen will play after Carter Hutton got the win against the Flyers. Allen also is expected to start Monday against the Blackhawks. The Blues are 14-2-4 at home and have points in 16 of the past 17 at Scottrade Center (12-1-4), but they are 4-5-1 in the past 10 games overall after going 8-1-1 during the previous 10.
