Blackhawks defeat Predators on Saad goal in overtime

Brandon Saad scored in overtime to lift the Chicago Blackhawks to a 2-1 win against the Nashville Predators at United Center on Saturday.
Saad tipped a pass from Patrick Kane past Pekka Rinne from in close with 1:55 remaining for his team-leading sixth goal to complete the comeback.

Saad has four game-winning goals this season, tying his total from last season.
"I think it just had to do with us not managing the puck the right way," Saad said, according to the Chicago Sun Times. "We had a lot of turnovers and they capitalized the other way. That's what kept us in our own end, and we couldn't create offense. We did it to ourselves. But we learned from it. It was a big win, and we'll move on."
Patrick Sharp tied the game at 1-1, putting a backhander past Rinne off a pass from John Hayden with 5:36 remaining in the third period.

Corey Crawford made 37 saves for the Blackhawks (4-1-1), including 18 in the first period. He has allowed seven goals in five games.
"He's gotten off to a great start," coach Joel Quenneville told the Blackhawks website. "Can't say enough good things about him."
Filip Forsberg scored his fifth of the season -- and fourth on the power play -- to give the Predators a 1-0 lead at 18:16 of the second period. P.K. Subban took a shot that was deflected by Scott Hartnell right to Forsberg at the side of the net, and he lifted it over Crawford's stick.

"It hurts a little not getting the second point of the two," Predators forward Colton Sissons said. "We did like our game for the majority of the game. I thought it was our best effort of the season. So, it [stinks] leaving a point out there, but we can definitely build off that with that game."
It was the fifth straight regular season win for the Blackhawks against the Predators; Nashville defeated Chicago in four games in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season.
"This is a big win against them. It's kind of nice to beat them from last year," Crawford said. "It's a new season and I think it's better just to get the win and get the points in the standings. They are always a tough team to play against."
Rinne made 33 saves for Nashville (2-2-1).

With the Blackhawks trailing 1-0, Crawford denied Viktor Arvidsson's wrist shot on a shorthanded chance with 31 seconds remaining in the second period.

Blackhawks forward Richard Panik had a breakaway in the first period but was stopped by Rinne with 4:03 remaining to keep the game scoreless.

The goal by Sharp ended a streak of 174:56 in which Chicago didn't score against Nashville at home. The Blackhawks were shut out by the Predators in two playoff games at United Center last season. ... The Predators scored their seventh power-play goal of the season. ...
