DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings will be without two of their regular defensemen when they face the Florida Panthers on Monday at Joe Louis Arena.

Mike Green is day-to-day with a sore groin and Niklas Kronwall is on injured reserve after having knee surgery before the NHL All-Star break.

"I don't think it's anything too, too serious, but the best I can say right now is day-to-day," Blashill told the Red Wings website.

Green will be replaced by Jakub Kindl, who was recalled from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League last week.

"I think one of the advantages for Jakub was that he was down in Grand Rapids and had an opportunity to play," Blashill said. "I think that's a huge advantage. I've watched guys that when they sit for two months and try to play it's extraordinarily hard, whereas that gives the call-up guys way more of an advantage, because they're down there playing. The levels aren't that much different.

"The adjustment is the adjustment, so Jakub has done a good job over his career here. He'll have an opportunity to be on the power play. That's one area where I think he has excelled. Just probably hasn't gotten too many opportunities. So, to play to his strengths means he's a great outlet passer. He's got to make sure he's tight-gapped and he's gotta be real good on the power play."

The Panthers defeated the Red Wings 6-3 at BB&T Center last Thursday and have won their past five games at Joe Louis Arena.

"We're playing our game," said Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad, who turned 20 on Sunday. "We know we're a defensive team, we know that we have to take care of our own end and we've been really good on the penalty kill."

Detroit rookie Dylan Larkin scored two goals in the loss to Florida. Panthers coach Gerard Gallant coached Larkin in the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game as coach of the Atlantic Division. Larkin won the fastest skater contest in the Skills Competition on Jan. 30, setting an all-time record in the event, and had three assists in the Atlantic's win against the Metropolitan Division in the semifinal 3-on-3 mini game.

"The speed and skill he has is unbelievable," Gallant said. "He's definitely someone we'll have to concentrate on tonight."

Larkin is the Red Wings' leading scorer this season with 18 goals and 37 points, and his plus-25 rating is tied for the League lead.

Florida center Vincent Trocheck was the NHL's Third Star for the week ending Feb. 7 after he had three goals and three assists in three games last week.

Trocheck, who played youth hockey in the Detroit-area as a teenager, has 17 goals and 33 points.

Goalie Al Montoya will start for the Panthers.

Here are the projected lineups:

Jonathan Huberdeau - Aleksander Barkov - Jaromir Jagr

Jussi Jokinen - Vincent Trocheck - Reilly Smith

Status report: Blashill will keep Zetterberg and Datsyuk on the same line. Datysuk had two assists in the Red Wings' 5-1 win Saturday against the New York Islanders. "It was like holiday," Datsyuk told the Red Wings website. "It's fun to play together but we don't need to forget about effort." … Thornton replaces Knight in the Panthers' lineup.

Who's hot: Barkov has a goal in each of his past four games and a six-game point streak (four goals and two assists) … Larkin has three goals and an assist in his past two games.
