A product of Red Deer of the Western Hockey League, Petrovic came to the NHL as a second-round pick (No. 36) of the Panthers in the 2010 NHL Draft and began his pro career with San Antonio of the American Hockey League during the 2011-12 season.
Petrovic made his NHL debut on April 18, 2013, in a 6-1 loss to the New York Rangers, and played in six games that season, recording 25 penalty minutes but no points.
Petrovic got his first NHL point with an assist on March 13, 2014, against the Tampa Bay Lightning. On Jan. 26, 2016, he scored his first NHL goal in a 5-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
