Eastern Conference First Round, Game 7
Best-of-7 series tied 3-3

The Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers will play Game 7 at TD Garden on Sunday, the victor moving into the Eastern Conference Second Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
It wasn't a scenario that many predicted at the start of the series between the Presidents' Trophy-winning Bruins and the just-squeaked-into-the-playoffs Panthers, but Florida won Games 5 and 6 to set up Game 7 in Boston.
None of that matters anymore, the momentum, the supposed-tos. Now it's just the one game.
"Whoever wins it, moves on," Panthers forward Eric Staal said. "However we were going before, at the end of the day it doesn't matter."
The Bruins led 3-1 after Game 4 and had a chance to clinch the best-of-7 series at home Wednesday, but lost 4-3 and 7-5 in a crazy, back-and-forth Game 6 on Friday. Their plan is to keep it simple by being the team they've been all season and turning to the veterans who have been here again and again.
Patrice Bergeron, Boston's captain who could be playing his final NHL game, will tie the NHL record of 14 Game 7s played with former Bruins captain Zdeno Chara. David Krejci will play his 12th Game 7 and potential final NHL game. Brad Marchand will skate in his 11th.

"The biggest thing is we feel we're prepared," Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said, "and the best predictor of the future is your past and our past is really good."
The Panthers are 1-1 in Game 7s and the Bruins 15-14 (.517), 14-9 (.609) in Boston. Home teams are 111-79 (.584) in 190 Game 7s (4-2 in 2022). The team that scores first is 143-47 (.753), including 5-1 in 2022.
Here are 3 keys for Game 7:

1. Who's in net?

The Bruins have gone with Linus Ullmark in each of the first six games.
But should they have?
All season, the Bruins have alternated between Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman, with Ullmark making 48 starts and Swayman 33. Even while Ullmark dominated, becoming a top candidate for the Vezina Trophy as the best goalie in the NHL, Swayman was kept in the mix, but hasn't started since April 13.
Though Swayman was the first goalie off the ice at the morning skate, Montgomery declined to announce a starter. He said Saturday that if a change was made, it would be because "Linus didn't make enough stops. That would be the reason to make a switch. Plain and simple."

2. Ride the momentum -- and Matthew Tkachuk

The Panthers have won two in a row, each in dramatic fashion with huge goals from Tkachuk. He scored in overtime to win Game 5 and had two goals and an assist in Game 6.
No one has played a bigger role getting Florida into the playoffs and Game 7 than Tkachuk.
"He's been everything you can ask for, obviously, with a primetime player," Staal said. "He's been the difference-maker throughout the regular season, so when we needed moments that we needed a win, he's come up big. He's been that all season long. I can't say enough about him. He's a competitor, a great teammate, one of those guys that grabs everybody together and makes it a real team atmosphere and energy, and those are the people who you love to play with."

3. Play for Patrice

The Bruins understand what's on the line even with Bergeron, a pending unrestricted free agent, not saying anything about his future. They felt it last season, too, in Game 7 of the first round against the Carolina Hurricanes, which they lost when Bergeron was undecided about 2022-23.
"We know all these things and we're prepared," forward Taylor Hall said. "At the end of the day, we have to go out and beat them. Play just a bit better than we did in Games 5 and 6 and lock things down when we do get a lead and we'll be good."
