Larkin was first-line center in practice Tuesday. He played left wing on that line in Detroit's most recent game, a 7-4 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Dec. 21, to avoid taking face-offs while playing through a hand injury. … Red Wings forward Jakub Vrana was assigned to Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League for conditioning. Vrana, who last played Oct. 15, had practiced with Detroit since being reinstated by the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program on Dec. 16. ... Friedman could make his season debut after Ruhwedel, a defenseman, sustained an upper-body injury in a 5-1 loss to the New York Islanders on Tuesday. ...
