Bruins team scope

Goalie Zane McIntyre will start for the Boston Bruins, who defeated the Florida Panthers 4-0 on Saturday to begin a four-game road trip. Goaltender Tuukka Rask made 25 saves for his fifth shutout of the season. "We need goaltenders who can help us win some hockey games," coach Claude Julien said. "In this day and age with the way the schedule is, there is no way you can rely on just one goaltender. I think goaltending plays such a big role in team success nowadays." McIntire is 0-2-0 in his previous two starts this season, but has a 10-0-0 record with Providence in the American Hockey League. Forward Brad Marchand scored twice, including a shorthanded goal in the first period that was the game-winner. "We've had some tough nights where we've worked hard and didn't get the results," coach Claude Julien said after the game. "This is one of the few games where we've been able to extend a lead and get a win that we feel much better about." Forward David Backes scored his 10th goal in his return after missing three games because of a concussion. The Bruins will play every other day for a nine-game stretch beginning at the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

Hurricanes team scope

Goalie Cam Ward will make his 16th straight start for the Carolina Hurricanes, who are beginning a four-game homestand. The Hurricanes are coming off a split of back-to-back road games on Thursday and Friday; they defeated the Blues 4-2 and lost to the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1. Forward Ty Rattie, claimed off waivers from St. Louis on Wednesday, assisted on Victor Rask's goal against Chicago to earn his first point with the Hurricanes. He will continue to play on Carolina's top line with Rask and Jeff Skinner. "We will make an evaluation on him after three weeks," Peters said after practice Saturday. "That way he's got some ice time and some opportunity to get comfortable and play with some guys on a consistent basis. I thought he was good and I thought that line was dangerous."
