CHANCE FOR VILLE
Ville Heinola will play his first game with the Jets this season after recording seven assists in 11 games with the Manitoba Moose. It's a great opportunity for Heinola against Carolina. Rick Bowness believes Heinola's strengths will help against the Hurricanes.
"A big part of beating these guys is the ability of your defence to get back and move the puck right away," said Bowness today after the morning skate.
"Because they are a heavy forecheck team. I think they're number one in the league in terms of dumping the puck in and putting pressure (on)."
Possible defence pairings could see Heinola with Brendan Dillon and Nate Schmidt with Dylan Samberg.
STASTNY RETURNS
Paul Stastny returns tonight as a member of the Hurricanes after he signed a one-year deal with them in the off-season. Stastny had a solid could of seasons here in Winnipeg, especially last season where he scored 20 goals for the first time since 2013-14 and won 56.6% of his faceoffs. Stastny will centre the Hurricanes fourth line tonight.
"It's mainly his stick and his body positioning and opening up space for his linemates," said Nate Schmidt when asked about Stastny's strengths.
"It's something you see when you play with him. The way he's able to do that and how long he's been able to do that is impressive."
