The New York Islanders opened the on-ice portion of training camp on Thursday.
Fifty-nine players, including 34 forwards, 18 defensemen and 7 goalies
, were invited to the 2022 camp.
The team will play six preseason games, with the first coming on Monday against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
"It's good to get out there," Brock Nelson said after the first day. "It's fun to see everybody, get back to the schedule and get back into that mindset of playing games."

Group 1:
Forwards:Josh Bailey, Anthony Beauvillier, Kieffer Bellows, Erik Brown, Arnaud Durandeau, Blade Jenkins, Matthew Maggio, Brock Nelson, Kyle Palmieri, Aatu Räty
Defensemen:Sebastian Aho, Noah Dobson, Seth Helgeson, Ryan MacKinnon, Connor McCarthy, Alexander Romanov
Goalies:Tristan Lennox, Cory Schneider, Henrik Tikkanen
Group one featured Alexander Romanov's first practice in an Islanders uniform. The 22-year-old is the Islanders' newest addition on defense after the draft day trade that brought him to the Island from Montreal.
The group also included 2022 fifth round (142nd overall) pick Matthew Maggio.

Group 2:
Forwards:Andy Andreoff, Mathew Barzal, Cal Clutterbuck, Simon Holmstrom, Ruslan Iskhakov, Daylan Kuefler, Jimmy Lambert, Kyle MacLean, Matt Martin, Zach Parise, Chris Terry
Defense:Dennis Cholowski, Grant Hutton, Adam Pelech, Ryan Pulock, Parker Wotherspoon
Goalies:Jakub Škarek, Ilya Sorokin
Cal Clutterbuck returned to the ice as a full participant for the first time since suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in March.
Undrafted rookie Jimmy Lambert, Lane Lambert's nephew, took the ice for his first NHL training camp with this group, and he wasn't the only one with family connections. Kyle MacLean, who played for Bridgeport last season, is the son of new Islanders assistant coach John MacLean.

Group 3:
Forwards: Cole Bardreau, Casey Cizikas, WIlliam Dufour, Hudson Fasching, Ross Johnston, Jeff Kubiak, Anders Lee, Reece Newkirk, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Nikita Soshnikov, Oliver Wahlstrom
Defense: Samuel Bolduc, Trevor Cosgrove, Paul LaDue, Scott Mayfield, Robin Salo, Vincent Sevigny
Goalies:Ken Appleby, Semyon Varlamov
Scott Mayfield returned to the ice as a full participant after suffering a season-ending lower body injury in March.
The group featured 2020 fifth round (152nd overall) William Dufour in his first full training camp. Dufour participated in rookie camp last week. Nikita Soshnikov
officially signed a one-year deal to join the Islanders on Wednesday
, and he took the ice with the final group just a day later.

ADAMS, GEORGE AND KOIVULA MISS FIRST DAY

Prior to the start of the first session, the team announced Collin Adams, Isaiah George and Otto Koivula would not be available to start camp.
Adams spent last season with Bridgeport. George is the team's 2022 fourth round pick (98th overall) who played last season for the London Knights of the OHL. George participated in rookie camp last week. Koivula split last season between Bridgeport and the NHL roster.
Bode Wilde is not coming to camp and his assignment to continue his development.is to be determined.
