The Series So Far...

  • Game 1Logan Stankoven (2G), Jackson Blake (1G, 1A), and Mike Reilly (2A) led the way offensively while Frederik Andersen recorded a 19-save shutout in a 3-0 win.
  • Game 2Taylor Hall's OT winner completed the comeback as the Canes erased an early two-goal deficit for their sixth straight win this postseason.
  • Game 3: A trio of special teams goals paved the way to a 4-1 victory for Carolina in Philly.

How Do You Want It?

  • Whether it's been a fantastic individual performance by Logan Stankoven, stellar goaltending from Frederik Andersen, a lopsided affair, or an overtime victory, the Canes have found a variety of avenues to get the job done en route to starting their postseason 7-0.
  • Rod Brind'Amour called "finding different ways to win" his team's calling card on Friday, also giving his team credit for how hard they've competed.
  • With the help of Andersen, the Hurricanes have allowed only eight goals through their first seven games of the playoffs. They are one of only five teams in the expansion era (since 1967-68) to allow eight or fewer goals through that game count to start a postseason, following the 2002 Senators (5 GA), 2004 Lightning (6 GA), 1969 Blues (7 GA), and 1994 Rangers (8 GA).

Do Not Read If You Believe In Jinxes...

  • The Hurricanes own an all-time series record of 4-0 when leading a best-of-seven series 3-0.
  • They are also one win away from becoming the first NHL team to sweep two best-of-seven series to open a playoff. Since the current format of four rounds of seven games began in 1987, no team has started 8-0.

In Net...

  • Making 18 saves on Thursday, Frederik Andersen became just the second goaltender born outside of North America to begin a postseason with seven consecutive victories. Also tying Cam Ward (2006) for the longest playoff winning streak, as long as he's ready to roll, it seems as though it's his net to lose. The veteran Dane leads the league in GAA (1.02) and save percentage (.957), while co-leading in shutouts (2).
  • Brandon Bussi would be the next expected option in the event Andersen needs a break. The first-year backstop wrapped up the regular season on a heater, following up his first set of consecutive losses (0-3-0) with a 6-0-1 run and allowing two or fewer goals in four of those wins.
  • Pyotr Kochetkov also remains waiting in the wings. Although he made two conditioning loan starts with Chicago (AHL) following multiple lower-body surgeries this winter, his last NHL action came on Dec. 20.

On The Other Side...

  • Backs fully against the wall, the Flyers will try to keep their season alive this evening.
  • After an infraction-filled Game 3, head coach Rick Tocchet said he thought his group was the better team at five-on-five, but called his roster "not equipped" for "penalty fests". Also labeling his unit as "antsy" and "nervous", Tocchet's team is now 1-for-16 on the power play after finishing dead last during the regular season.
  • Forward Trevor Zegras, the team's lone goal-scorer in Game 3, focused on the positives at Friday's media availability. Referring back to the team's 3.8% chance to make the playoffs, he drew it as a comparison to the team's ability to overcome the improbable.
  • On the injury front, if the Flyers can get Owen Tippett back in the mix, one would think that would help their odds of a victory. The forward has been skating the past few days, but has not played in the series due to an undisclosed injury.

Every angle of the Canes' 4-1 win over the Flyers in Game 3 of their second-round series.

Injury Updates...

  • The Canes currently do not have any injuries at this time.
