Milestone-Burns

It was a play that fans of the San Jose Sharks had seen dozens of times before. Brent Burns shot the puck on net from the point, which Joe Pavelski tipped into the goal. Red light goes on, Sharks score.
That primary assist against the Chicago Blackhawks was also the 270th point for Brent Burns as a Shark, officially breaking Dan Boyle's franchise record for points by a defenseman.
Since joining the Sharks prior to the 2011-12 season, the famously bearded defenseman has improved his point totals in every full 82 game season. This culminated last season in being named as a Norris Trophy finalist with 75 points in 82 games. This season has been more of the same, with 13 goals and 17 assists (along with an NHL-leading 133 shots) in 32 games.

Burns joined the Sharks in a trade during the summer of 2011. The Sharks traded Devin Setoguchi, Charlie Coyle, and a 2011 first round pick for Brent Burns and a 2012 second round pick. Since joining the Sharks, Burns has established himself as one of the most uniquely talented players in the league: the ability to be a havoc-wreaking power forward as well as a Norris-worthy defenseman.
Not only has Burns been prolific offensively, he is one of the league leaders off the ice. He won the 2015 NHL Foundation Player Award for his work in the community, a year after being named a finalist. Burns was also chosen as a finalist for the 2016 ESPN Sports Humanitarian of the Year award.
Earlier this season, Brent Burns signed an eight year extension with the club.
