With three days of rest and preparation under their belt, Phil Housley isn't expecting the Buffalo Sabres to experience any sort of hangover from their five-game road trip when they return to KeyBank Center on Thursday night.

It will be Buffalo's first home game in two weeks, and a big one at that. The Montreal Canadiens come to town with points in five-straight games. Their 12 points rank third in the Atlantic Division, two ahead of the Sabres.
"I think just with the opponent coming into our building - a divisional game, a big rivalry - I think that's going to be motivation enough," Housley said.

GAME PREVIEW

The Sabres will stick with the lineup that led them to back-to-back wins in Los Angeles and Anaheim over the weekend, with Remi Elie, Tage Thompson and Nathan Beaulieu expected to be scratched.
Carter Hutton, owner of a .949 save percentage and a 1.37 goals-against average in four career appearances against Montreal, will start in net.
The Sabres will look to replicate the style of play that led them to their two most recent wins, characterized by careful puck management through the neutral zone and an active forecheck. They outshot the Kings and Ducks 71-48 and tallied a season-high 45 shots in the latter game.
"[Montreal's] transition game is very quick, and their forwards have a lot of speed so we're going to have to manage that area of the game, coming through the neutral zone, being smart, making the plays that are there but also getting pucks behind their defense," Housley said.
"The one thing we talked about is just being smart in that area. We can't feed their transition because that's energy we don't want to be spending coming back into our own end."
The less time they spend in the defensive zone, the better chance they'll have to set the pace.
"We want to be the fast team," defenseman Casey Nelson said. "We've just got to play that way as well. That's our main focus, is to play with pace and play north."
A win or overtime loss would give the Sabres their highest point total through 10 games since 2011-12, when they started the season 6-4-0.
Coverage on MSG-B begins at 6:30 p.m. with the GMC Game Night Pregame Show on MSG-B, or you can listen live on WGR 550. The puck drops at 7.

PREGAME: Housley

For the first time in his young career, Rasmus Dahlin won't be the youngest player on the ice. That distinction will belong to Canadiens forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi, who was selected two picks after Dahlin at No.3 overall in June.
Kotkaniemi has three points - all assists - through his first eight games.
"It's amazing," Housley said following practice on Wednesday. "Number one, you've got to get accustomed to the North American game, the culture and all that comes with that. They seem to be fitting right in with their respective teams."
Brendan Gallagher leads the Canadiens with five goals this season while Max Domi, Tomas Tatar and Jeff Petry are tied with a team-high eight points each. Montreal is currently without captain Shea Weber, expected to be out until December after knee surgery, and forward Tomas Plekanec (back).
Antti Niemi will make his start of the season in net. Niemi is 2-0-0 with a 2.88 goals-against average and a .893 save percentage.

Milestone watch

Another day, another potential milestone for Jason Pominville. After moving into the top 10 in franchise games played on Oct. 11 and scoring his 700th point in Los Angeles on Saturday, Pominville is nearing a move into the top 10 in points by a Sabre.
Pominville is two points behind former teammate Thomas Vanek, who ranks 10th at 497, and five points behind ninth-place Danny Gare. He has three points in his last two games playing on a line with Jeff Skinner and Jack Eichel.
