October 15

The Buffalo Sabres continue their Canadian road trip with Thursday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7 p.m. at Scotiabank Arena.

This three-game trip began Tuesday with a 4-3 shootout loss in Montreal, where Buffalo struggled to generate offense for most of the night but battled back in the third period to earn a point. It was a stark contrast to Monday, when the Sabres made plays all afternoon and beat the Panthers, 5-3.

“You look at the Florida game, it might’ve been our best game of the season (with) generating and speed,” coach Lindy Ruff said. “Whether a little bit of fatigue in the back-to-back, when you don’t skate well, you don’t have hands. We didn’t have hands tonight.”

Now, the Sabres look to find those hands again in their first of four matchups with the new-look Maple Leafs, who are back home after a 1-1-1 trip out west. The Atlantic Division foes enter the night with identical 3-3-1 records to start the season.

It’s an important (albeit early) week in the standings with four straight divisional games, and Buffalo has done well to collect three of four points so far. The work continues Thursday – here all the details before 7 p.m. puck drop.

Preview Stats - Away

Toronto has added several new faces since these teams last met, including:

  • First-overall pick Gavin McKenna has five points (2+3), working at third-line left wing and on the top power play in recent games.
  • Offseason signing Darren Raddysh leads the team with 23:22 TOI/G. The hard-shooting defenseman is minus-five with three assists.
  • Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky is 1-2-1 with a .907 save percentage and 2.97 goals-against average. Toronto signed the 38-year-old to a three-year contract this summer. After Anthony Stolarz started in Utah, Bobrovsky figures to face the Sabres.
  • Head coach Jim Hiller replaced Craig Berube behind the bench.

Shutdown defenseman Chris Tanev is out with an upper-body injury, and forwards Max Domi and Dakota Joshua are both on long-term injured reserve.
