The Buffalo Sabres have hired Stacy Roest as a pro scout, the team announced Tuesday.

Roest, 51, worked for the Tampa Bay Lightning from 2013 through the 2024-25 season. He spent that entire time as director of player development, and in 2019-20 he also became Tampa Bay’s assistant general manager and GM of the Syracuse Crunch, the AHL affiliate.

The Lightning made the playoffs in 11 of 12 seasons during Roest’s tenure, winning the Stanley Cup in 2020 and 2021. They also reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2015 and 2022. Under Roest, they drafted and developed NHL talent including Brayden Point and Anthony Cirelli.

Roest most recently served as associate GM for Team Canada at the 2025 Spengler Cup, an annual international tournament held in Davos, Switzerland. There, he worked with Team Canada GM Marc Bergevin, whom Buffalo recently hired as associate GM under Jarmo Kekäläinen.

The Lethbridge, Alberta, native played parts of five NHL seasons as a forward with the Detroit Red Wings and Minnesota Wild from 1998 to 2003, totaling 76 points (28+48) in 244 games.
