RELEASE: Oilers acquire Mike Green from Red Wings

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired defenceman Mike Green from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for forward Kyle Brodziak and a conditional draft pick in either 2020 or 2021

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oilers have acquired defenceman Mike Green from the Detroit Red Wings, in exchange for forward Kyle Brodziak and a conditional draft pick in 2020 or 2021.

Green, 34, has appeared in 48 games with the Red Wings this season, posting 11 points (3G, 8A), 32 penalty minutes and a -32 plus/minus rating. He has averaged 21:04 of ice time this season, while ranking third on Detroit in blocked shots (63) as well as third among Red Wings defencemen in points (11) and assists (8).

The 6'1", 210-pound blueliner has appeared in 878 career NHL games, registering 501 points (150G, 351A), 592 penalty minutes and a -15 plus/minus rating. In 2012-13, Green led all NHL defencemen in goals (12) and set a career high in points (76) in 2009-10, leading all NHL defencemen.

The Calgary, Alberta native has appeared in 76 career NHL playoff games, recording 37 points (10G, 27A) and 85 penalty minutes.

Green was selected by Washington in the first round, 29th overall at the 2004 NHL Draft.

Conditional Draft Pick Details: Edmonton will send a 4thround draft pick in 2020 to Detroit or, in the event the Oilers make the 2020 NHL Playoffs and advance to the conference finals, with Green playing in 50 percent of the playoff games in the first two round combined, the Oilers will send Detroit a 3rd round draft pick in 2021. As a part of the deal, the Red Wings will retain 50% of Green's salary.
