The Oilers and Penguins traded leads five times and combined for 11 goals in a 6-5 overtime thriller at Rogers Place, finished off with a sublime finish from Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby 2:12 into the extra period.
The visitors have now won five straight against the Oilers and nine of their last 11 meetings, with four of the last six needing overtime.
"I thought offensively we did some good things, kept plays alive, and were dangerous," Oilers captain Connor McDavid, scoring a goal and assist tonight, said post-game. "I'm sure it was a fun game to watch. There were lots of good players on the ice, good creative chances going either way, and I think the fans got a good show tonight. But we wanted a better result."
Alex Chiasson and Leon Draisaitl added pairs for the Oilers in defeat, and defenceman Jamie Oleksiak had two goals for the Penguins. Netminder Matt Murray was solid in goal with 41 saves on 46 shots as the visitors made it five-straight over the Oilers.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins notched his 200th NHL assist on Leon Draisaitl's equalizer in the second period, becoming the 15th Oiler in Franchise history to achieve the feat.
Chiasson scored his first and second goals as an Oiler, including one in style during the second period to give the Oilers a brief lead before taking a puck to the ear minutes later.
"He worked his way up into the lineup and ended up on a line with Leon, and he would've stayed there the rest of night," Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan said. "He was having a good night and you can tell he was feeling it. He hadn't played much at the start of the year and is still gaining confidence."

The Oilers power-play was productive again at a rate of 2-for-5, and received secondary scoring outside their top two lines that'll continue to prove productive as the season progresses. Ultimately, it will be the six goals against that proved decisive in a tightly-contested game featuring a number of heavy offensive hitters.
"We didn't have to let it get to six, and that's the disappointing part," McLellan added. "We could've prevented one of those goals, whether it was the goaltender, the d-men, the forwards, or better execution off faceoffs.
"There are little tiny things that go into winning successfully night in, night out and we still have to find ways to do that over 82 games."
It took the Oilers 30 seconds to generate the first scoring chance of the game when Kailer Yamamoto elected to pass on a broken 1-on-1 with the Pittsburgh netminder. The ensuing feed handcuffed Connor McDavid, who had an open cage to shoot at from the bottom of the left circle.
Cam Talbot made his first contribution four minutes later denying Penguins left wing Carl Hagelin on a partial 2-on-1 break off the Oilers turnover just outside the blueline.
Cooper Marody almost had the impact moment he wanted during his first NHL game when he fed Milan Lucic for a clean scoring opportunity in front of goal 8:23 into the first frame. The 21-year-old received his recall from the Bakersfield Condors on Sunday and drew into the lineup for the first time this season alongside defenceman Kevin Gravel.

"To go from the American League to playing right away at the NHL level, even with experience, is a jolt," McLellan said of the call-ups. "It happens fast. I thought [Gravel] adjusted quickly, and Cooper you can see has a high hockey IQ. He didn't hurt us in our own end and we trusted him on the ice against some good players."
In a battle touted as Crosby vs. McDavid, the former would strike first on the power play for his first goal of the season. Defenceman Kris Letang's pass-shot found an open Crosby at the left post before being redirected past Talbot for the 1-0 lead.
Zack Kassian took onus upon himself energizing his teammates by dropping the gloves with the 6-foot-7, 255-pound defenceman Oleksiak, landing a number of good blows before the refs stepped in.
The shots were even at 11-11 through 20 minutes, with defenceman Oscar Klefbom playing 10:54 for the Oilers in the opening frame.
The Oilers came out flying in the second period down a goal, and it didn't take long for them to equalize and take the lead.
Draisaitl reacted quickest to gather the loose puck in the slot before firing home his third of the season past Murray to make it 1-1.
Chiasson gathered his own rebound 2:04 later and scored a beauty of a debut Oilers goal, falling backward but snapping his shot into the top-left corner of the net to give the Oilers the lead.

The Oilers outshot the Penguins 11-0 up to this point in the second period, but their first would prove influential when defenceman Jamie Oleksiak finished off a tic-tac-toe with Evgeni Malkin and Phil Kessel.
The Penguins then regained the lead halfway through the second when Patric Hornqvist snuck a short-side wrister past Talbot to make it 3-2.
Chiasson and the Oilers made quick work of a neutral-zone faceoff to spring the Montreal, Quebec native on a 2-on-1 with Tobias Rieder. Chiasson beat defenceman Jack Johnson to the back post for the one-timer to score his second goal of the night.

A back and forth second period ended with the Penguins gaining the advantage again, this time off the skate of Hornqvist and under Talbot after the puck ricocheted in front of goal. The goal went to review, but would ultimately stand to give the Penguins a 4-3 advantage through 40 minutes.
It was only a matter of time before McDavid matched Crosby, scoring on the power play to make it 4-4 with a wrist shot under Murray's blocker that rolled across the goal line at 17:13 in the third.
McDavid turned provider a minute-and-a-half later, setting up Draisaitl for his second of the game and fourth goal of the season on a 3-on-2 following a shorthanded break for the Penguins that was broken up by Klefbom.

PIT@EDM: Draisaitl puts home McDavid's return feed

After Talbot would've liked a number of Penguins goals back in the second, the 31-year-old was instrumental in preserving the lead with the right pad on an in-close rebound off a Letang point shot.
Oleksiak added his second of the night to level the score once again, this time rifling a one-timer from the slot over Talbot to make it five-all.
Overtime would bring an end to a rollercoaster night at Rogers Place, ending with a Sidney Crosby marker in extra time involving a smooth deke and backhand past Talbot to secure the 6-5 victory for the Penguins.
