GAME STORY: Oilers 4, Hurricanes 0

EDMONTON, AB -Laurent Brossoit made 30 saves and Connor McDavid scored back-to-back goals in the third to put a stamp on a 4-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes at SaskTel Centre.
Looking for a better effort than in the two teams' previous meeting on Monday, Edmonton jumped out to a 1-0 lead courtesy of Zack Kassian at 1:49 of the first. The winger skated around the Hurricanes net and into the slot where he fired a backhander past Cam Ward. Chris Kelly and Yohann Auvitu recorded the helpers.

Prior to the goal, Oilers forward Ryan Strome blocked a Trevor Carrick shot in the slot and immediately skated off, but shook it off to return to play a few minutes later.
Brossoit was a big reason the Oilers kept their lead in the first, making several saves - including two early on a Jesse Puljujarvi slashing penalty midway through the frame.
"We need that from him so that Cam (Talbot) can get his rest when he needs it and we're probably going to call on (Brossoit) a little more this year," said Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan.
On a power play of their own, Edmonton doubled their lead. Connor McDavid sauced a cross-ice pass to Leon Draisaitl near the Carolina net. Draisaitl then hit Milan Lucic at the far post and the winger buried it for the 2-0 lead at 13:16 of the opening period.
Speed was on display in the first period for the Oilers. McDavid carried the puck across the blueline with impressive quickness, stick-handling the puck past a Hurricanes defender. Moments later, Draisaitl sped through centre and drove to the net, setting up Lucic who gave it back to the hulking forward in front for a nice scoring chance.

"(Leon) always looks good, honestly," said McDavid. "He's a big guy who moves so well and is so smart. I can't say enough good things about him. He's looked great so far and he's going to hit a peak heading into the season."
Brossoit kept his good game going early in the second when the Oilers goaltender denied Sebastian Aho on a breakaway.
The Oilers got into penalty trouble in the middle frame, but managed to escape unscathed shorthanded. After killing off back-to-back penalties, at 18:22 of the period, Edmonton got a power play of their own.
McDavid put Edmonton up 3-0 at 10:30 of the third on a 2-on-0 shorthanded breakaway.
The captain continued his offensive surge, scoring upstairs on Ward at 12:02 of the final frame to give Edmonton a 4-0 lead. Kailer Yamamoto and Kris Russell each recorded an assist on the tally.
McDavid finished the night with two goals and an assist.
The Oilers (6-1-0) close out their pre-season schedule Saturday night in Vancouver against the Canucks.
"We've still go a lot of ways to go: a ways to be sharper, ways to be harder," said McDavid. "We'll get a couple of good days of practice in and get ready to go for Van and kind of the last dress rehearsal. You'll see that will be pretty close to an NHL game."
